Tony Hawk is a fitness and health mentor. Tony Hawk got his first skateboard at 8 and he took to it instantly. By 12, he was sponsored by Dogtown Skateboards, by 14, he was pro and by 16, he was the best skateboarder in the world. Tony Hawk has entered into over 103 pro contests; winning 73 and taking 2nd place 19 times - the best record in skateboarding history.

These days, Tony Hawk is building a legacy with his four children as well as American youth. He founded the Tony Hawk Foundation which has impacted communities across the nation by developing and promoting public skate parks in low-income areas. Some of his latest skate park developments have been in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lyons, Michigan and Watts, California.
"These kids want to do something physical and positive, yet the only place they can skate is the shopping mall parking lot, or in front of the library, and they're discouraged from doing that,” said Tony Hawk. “But the same cities that are discouraging them aren't providing facilities for them. So I wanted to help bridge that gap and provide skate parks in low-income cities."

Tony Hawk feels that another valuable lesson learned through building public skate parks is that it can teach young people a lifelong lesson in the power of perseverance.
"I'm pretty happy with the way things turned out," Tony says. "I mean, I never thought that I could make a career out of skateboarding."
